No-Sew Rag Curtains

Create cute and easy curtains from fabric scraps– no sewing required!

How to:
made with
cotton fabric scraps, or approx. 1 yd
curtain rod

1
Cut the fabric into strips about two inches wide. You just need to snip the fabric to get it started, then you can rip down the length of the fabric.

I’m using a lot of fabric scraps left over from other projects. However, you could also purchase a a yard of fabric if you want a more subdued look.

2
Cut the strips about twice as long as you want the curtains to hang.

3
Now we’ll add the strips to the curtain rod. We’ll be using a lark’s head knot, also referred to as a cow hitch knot.

4
Fold a strip of fabric in half. Place the folded strip beneath the rod, with the fold at top.

5
Hold the loose bottom ends of the strip with one hand, while spreading open the fold with the other hand. This creates a loop at top.

6
Bring the two loose ends upward and through the loop. Pull the ends to tighten.

7
If you want the curtains to hang evenly, be precise when folding. If you want the lengths to vary a bit, like mine, then you can vary the position of the fold.

8
Once you have the rod covered, lay it on your ironing board. Space the knots evenly. Use heavy steam to set the knots, and iron down the length of the strips so they will hold their position.

9
Snip off any loose threads, then hang your curtains.

These curtains are hanging in my craft room, but this would also be dreamy in a nursery. Or make it in shades of cream for a romantic window dressing in a bedroom.
