Marshmallow Plush

Make an adorable Marshmallow Plush softie, inspired by Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs II.

How to:

1
Begin by cutting two circles. You can trace a CD, a bowl, or something else.

2
Next we’ll cut the rectangle that will make the sides of the marshmallow. Measure your circle across the middle.

  • Add one inch to find the width of the rectangle.
  • Multiply the circle measurement by 3 to find the height of the rectangle.

My circle is 4.25 inches across, so my rectangle is 5.25 wide x 12.75 inches high.

3
Now we’ll give our marshmallow a face. I’m using scraps of black felt adhered with No-Sew fabric glue.

4
Next we’ll stitch the marshmallow’s face circle to the rectangle. Lay it face-down on top of the rectangle, with the sides of the circle touching the edges of the rectangle.

To sew a circle to a rectangle, you’ll need to stitch only an inch or so at a time, then adjust the rectangle fabric to align with the curve of the circle. Sew together with a ¼ inch seam. Pause often to align the two fabrics.

5
Now your project will look like a tube with open sides. We can stitch on the second circle now. Start at one corner of the rectangle and stitch the circle in place as you did before, stopping often to align the rectangle’s edge with the side of the circle.

6
Next we’ll close up the long side, but we’ll need to leave a hole at one end for turning right side out.

You probably have a little excess fabric on the long side, as I left extra to compensate for the adjustment of the rectangle. Just sew your seam right where the fabrics naturally meet when you close the tube.

7
Trim off any excess seam allowance.

8
Turn right side out through the hole and stuff with poly-fill batting.

9
Hand-sew the hole shut with a blind or ladder stitch.

10
Roll the the circle seams between your fingers to better define the edges. Your marshmallow plush is ready to love!

Thanks for this pattern, the instructions are so easy to follow. The only thing I would say is you need to make sure you leave lots of room to wiggle on the pieces. I am expecting twins in a few days and have been sewing away like crazy trying to prepare. I’ve made just about everything in your baby section (two of each of course) and almost half the items in the toys and gifts section. You are such an inspiration to me and I love your posts. Keep up the good work!

I am so confused… How do you turn it into a tube? The circle will just be stuck on the body? Sorry please explain.
