This Iron-On Headboard makes an interesting focal point while taking up zero floor space.

The trick to these iron-ons is Heat N Bond Ultra Hold. These is a double-sided fusible adhesive. There are several different types of Heat N Bond, so be sure that you’re buying No-Sew Ultrahold.

I first did this type of iron-on 5 years ago, in my kids’ rooms. The iron-ons stay put unless you purposely peel them off. They come off easily if you pull at them. It did not affect the paint finish beneath.

I needed about two yards of cotton fabric for my queen-sized headboard. Start by ironing your fabric to remove any creases.

Then use pushpins to hang it over the bed. Put the pattern towards the wall so that you can draw on the backside of the fabric.

Use a tape measure to find and mark the center point.

I chose to only sketch my design on one half of the fabric, I will cut it on the fold later. You can look online for headboard inspiration.

Once I sketched my design, I folded the fabric in half, right sides together. Next I cut out the design along the lines I drew.

Lay your fabric face-down on the ironing board. Unroll the Heat N Bond with the paper face-up. Iron without steam to bond the fabric. Add Heat N Bond until the entire piece of fabric is covered.

Flip over the fabric and iron from the front side as well to ensure proper adhesion. Trim off any extra.

Peel off the paper backing.

Center the piece of fabric over the bed and secure with pushpins. Iron directly on the fabric to adhere to the wall. This only works on walls that have little to no texturing. An orange peel drywall finish is fine; anything bumpier than that will cause problems.

After my headboard was ironed to the wall, I felt it needed a little something. So I added a ribbon border and accented it with standard office supply thumbtacks.
