I had a Pinterest fail of epic proportions. We’re talking a complete and utter craftastrophe. It doesn’t get messier- or uglier- than THIS:
I am so ashamed.
The Pin- and linked blog post– claimed I could update old upholstery with satin, latex paint. Just mix with fabric medium, keep the fabric damp, and “don’t be afraid of a little sandpaper.”
So I picked a pretty aqua paint, bought out my craft store’s supply of fabric medium, and loaded a spray bottle. I started with this…
And many hours and a half gallon of paint later, had to face this:
An atrocity. I don’t know where things went wrong. But this was very, very wrong.
But I’m so stubborn when it comes to a DIY project. I just can’t throw in the towel, even when it would be wiser to cut my losses. I decided to give this chair one more chance. I stripped off the painted upholstery with a razor blade, then raided my fabric stash. Many, many staples later, I had this:
Is it perfect? Not quite. Is it better than the golden tan it started as? Yep. Is it better than the stiff, blue, painted horror? Most definitely.
Yeah, I think I can live with this.
