Welcome!

As you can see, Made By Marzipan has an all-new design! This has been months in the making, and I’m so excited to hear your feedback. My main goal was to make navigation easier, so you can find more craft projects to try. Check out the main category buttons in the header to search by project type. There are also new sections to explore, like Kid Crafts and Hand Lettering

At reader request, I’ve added a blog! You can find the page link by my profile pic. It will give you a peek at some of my other projects, like home decorating and gardening. So swing by and say hello!

Plus, there’s a place for you to upload your own version of Made By Marzipan projects, at the bottom of each tutorial post. Seeing what you’ve made from my tutorials is the BEST part of my job, so please share so we can all admire your work!

If you have any suggestions for the new layout, leave a comment. What do you like? What could be improved?

I’ve said it before, but THANK YOU for your continued support over the years. I love crafting with you!

–xoxo Marzi

Stamp & Sew

1

I finally bought a dress form last month! I was lucky enough to find it in the clearance section of my Wal-Mart. It’s fully adjustable so I can make my patterns fit perfectly. I’ve always shied away from sewing clothing for myself, because it’s such a hassle to stop sewing, put on the garment, then try to pin and mark while wearing it. Too much work! But with my new dress form, I couldn’t wait to get started.

This is the first thing I sewed for myself: McCall’s Patterns M6437 Misses’/Women’s Tops and Belt.

I found a sheer white fabric on clearance at Hancock Fabric for $2 a yard. I’m not a plain white kinda girl, so I used StazOn Jet Black ink to stamp a geometric design. (The stamps are made by AHA Arts and you can find them here.)

I tweaked the pattern just a bit, as I wanted a different neckline. But it was simple to sew.

StazOn ink fades just a bit in the first wash, mellowing out the colors a little. It won’t fade any more in subsequent washes. Here’s what my shirt looks like after 4 washes:

It’s so breezy and comfortable! I still have some white fabric left… what should I stamp on my next shirt? Have you ever stamped on fabric?

Gene Quilts

2

I think quilting must be in my genes. I love everything about it.

From designing blocks, to choosing fabrics, to piecing scraps into something functional and beautiful.

This past summer, I was lucky to inherit some small quilts that were sewn by my grandmothers. I was given a sweet little baby quilt that was made by my grandmother for her last baby. I framed it in a shadowbox and have it in my sewing room. It makes me happy.

And this one was sewn by my great-grandmother. It’s made from used flour sacks.

I’m proud that my love of quilting is a thread connecting me to these amazing and inspirational women.

As I teach my own daughter to sew, I’m reminded that we’re creating more than blankets…

and I’m passing down more than quilts.
