I finally bought a dress form last month! I was lucky enough to find it in the clearance section of my Wal-Mart. It’s fully adjustable so I can make my patterns fit perfectly. I’ve always shied away from sewing clothing for myself, because it’s such a hassle to stop sewing, put on the garment, then try to pin and mark while wearing it. Too much work! But with my new dress form, I couldn’t wait to get started.
This is the first thing I sewed for myself: McCall’s Patterns M6437 Misses’/Women’s Tops and Belt.
I found a sheer white fabric on clearance at Hancock Fabric for $2 a yard. I’m not a plain white kinda girl, so I used StazOn Jet Black ink to stamp a geometric design. (The stamps are made by AHA Arts and you can find them here.)
I tweaked the pattern just a bit, as I wanted a different neckline. But it was simple to sew.
StazOn ink fades just a bit in the first wash, mellowing out the colors a little. It won’t fade any more in subsequent washes. Here’s what my shirt looks like after 4 washes:
It’s so breezy and comfortable! I still have some white fabric left… what should I stamp on my next shirt? Have you ever stamped on fabric?
That’s been in my wishlist for ages! Never found one! :P
