I think quilting must be in my genes. I love everything about it.
From designing blocks, to choosing fabrics, to piecing scraps into something functional and beautiful.
This past summer, I was lucky to inherit some small quilts that were sewn by my grandmothers. I was given a sweet little baby quilt that was made by my grandmother for her last baby. I framed it in a shadowbox and have it in my sewing room. It makes me happy.
And this one was sewn by my great-grandmother. It’s made from used flour sacks.
I’m proud that my love of quilting is a thread connecting me to these amazing and inspirational women.
As I teach my own daughter to sew, I’m reminded that we’re creating more than blankets…
and I’m passing down more than quilts.
Is quilting in your genes, too? Tell me who you inherited your love of quilting from!
I was blown away with how easy you did the chevron quilt, my grandmother first got me interested in sewing. Now, with the kids grown and on there own I have time on my hands and quilt making has filled the free time and a void I had. Now my granddaughter wants to learn and I am ready to teach.
Sewing with your granddaughter is a great way to bond!
