In Part 1, we’ll show you how to make a camera, a campfire, a fishing pole, and marshmallow roasting sticks for your American Girl doll!
How to:
made with
pepper tin
black paper
spice lid
paper clip
twigs
Camera
1
Use a pencil to trace the width of the tin onto black paper. Cut out the strip of paper. (We’re using a black pepper tin, but you could also use a Jello box.)
2
Use double-sided tape to wrap the paper around the tin.
3
Trace the top and bottom of the tin onto black paper and cut out. Use double-sided tape to adhere to the tin.
4
Tuck the ends of an 18-inch ribbon under the paper on the back of the camera. Use a hot glue gun to adhere. It’s best to let a grown-up use the glue gun, because kids might get burned.
5
Hot glue the spice lid to the front center of the camera.
6
You can add buttons and a screen with Gelly Roll Moonlight pens. They show up on black paper!
Campfire
1
Cut flames out of red, orange, or yellow tissue paper.
2
Have a grown-up hot glue them to a battery-operated tea light. We found this one at the Dollar Store.
3
Collect twigs from outside, and use hot glue to adhere them to the base of the tea light.
Fishing Pole
1
Draw a fish on a piece of craft foam and cut out.
2
Add a magnet to the back of the fish.
3
Pull or cut the bristles on an old paint brush.
4
Tie string or yarn to the end of the paintbrush and secure with hot glue.
5
Tie a metal paperclip to the other end of the string, and your doll is ready to catch a fish!
Marshmallow Roasting Sticks
1
Cut a strip of white craft foam that’s about 1 by 12 inches.
2
Find a stick outside, then hot glue it at one end of the strip.
3
Tightly roll the craft foam around the strip, then hot glue the end.
4
Trace the circle top of the marshmallow and cut out. Glue on top to finish the marshmallow.
