Tips:

I found this 2-foot tall frame at a secondhand shop for a couple of dollars. I really liked the tiny rosettes and thought it would be beautiful in white… but I didn’t have anything to put in it. So I decided to hand-letter our home rules on a piece of white wrapping paper.

This is kind of silly, but my kids have our rules memorized to the tune of “BINGO.” Whenever one of our kids gets in trouble, they have to tell us which rule they broke before they can leave time out. I’m hoping that this will help them understand and internalize the rules.
Just in case you find it helpful, the song goes like this: “In our home we have some rules, and this is how they go / One, speak kindly, / Two, clean up your messes, / Three, obey quickly, / and four is ask permission. / In our home we have some rules, and this is how they go / Five, no whining, / Six, don’t hurt others, / We love each other, / And these are our home rules!
How to:
1
I have a large roll of plain white wrapping paper that I use to cover my craft desk when I’m doing a messy project. I tore off a piece, then took the glass out of the frame and traced around the center with a pencil so I knew what size canvas I had to work with.

I already had our home rules printed and hanging up, but I thought it would be much prettier to look at if they were hand-lettered. I pulled in a lot of different lettering styles, and many were inspired by free fonts online. For example, “Ask Permission” is based on Chinese Rocks. “LOVE” is inspired by Showboat. “Each Other” is a version of KG All Things New. (See more of my favorite free fonts for hand lettering inspiration here.)
3
Sketch out your design with a pencil. I tried to fill in all of the white space on this layout.
4
Trace with Micron pens, then use a large eraser to remove your pencil marks.
5
I painted the frame using white chalk paint.
