A paper straw sunburst wreath is an inexpensive and adorable way to decorate for a holiday, party, or shower!
How to:
1
We’ll use three different lengths of straws for this wreath. Some straws will be cut in half. Another group will be straws with ⅓ cut off the end. (We won’t be gluing the tiny ⅓ pieces on the wreath, so set those aside for another craft project.) The last group of straws will be left uncut.
2
Add a thin vertical stripe of hot glue to the wreath form, and press a piece of straw to it. Line up the bottom of the straw with the inside edge of the ring. I found it looks tidier to put the cut end of the straw on the inside edge of the wreath rather than the outside.
3
If you follow the inside edge of the ring, you will have slight gaps between the straws at the top. The straws should be touching at the bottom.
4
Continue hot gluing the straws, alternating the different sized pieces at random intervals. I used about half of the box, or 70 straws.
5
Once you’ve finished covering the wreath form, rub the surface lightly to collect loose hot glue strands. After you’ve removed the larger pieces, you can dissolve any remaining strands by blowing them with a hair dryer.
6
I’m topping off this wreath with a satin bow. Use wide, wired ribbon for best results. Cut about 2 yards of ribbon and tie a bow in the center.
7
Hot glue the bow to the top center of the wreath, in the middle of the straws. Shape the tails of the bow so they cascade prettily, and tack down with dabs of hot glue. Trim the ends of the ribbon at an angle.
